Frostburg State 99, Waynesburg 96

FROSTBURG, Md. — Despite a career-high 33 points from junior swingman Dan Happe, the Yellow Jackets suffered a 99-96 overtime loss at Frostburg State University on Monday night.

Waynesburg drops to 2-1 on the season with the loss, while the win marks the first of the season for Frostburg State (1-2).

Happe finished with a game-high 33 points on 12-of-20 attempts, including 6-of-11 from three-point territory. The junior made 7-of-11 shots, including four treys, in the first half to finish with 18 points in the first 20 minutes o the game.

For the second time in three games this season, senior forward Josh Parisi registered a double-double. The three-year starter posted 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds (four offensive) in the loss.

Senior guard Tim Drakeley, who was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week earlier in the day, finished with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists, while junior forward Jason Clark added 12 points and four assists against the Bobcats.

Waynesburg held a 41-35 halftime lead after shooting 50.0 percent (14-of-28) in the first 20 minutes and owned a 44-37 second-half lead before Frostburg State evened the contest at 47-47 with 16:15 left in regulation.

The second half featured six lead changes and seven ties, mostly notably a three-pointer by the Bobcats’ Brian Green when he nailed a three-pointer with five seconds left to even the game at 89-89 to send the game into overtime.

Waynesburg held its last lead of the game with 3:06 remaining in overtime when Drakeley made a lay-up to give the Yellow Jackets a 96-94 advantage. The Bobcats evened the score with 2:37 left before taking a 98-96 lead on a Jade Belt lay-up. Frostburg State expanded its lead to three points, 96-94, with 24 seconds left giving Waynesburg a chance to tie the score in the final seconds, but missed the potential game-tying trey.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1, when they open conference play against Thiel College. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Greenville, Pa.
