WINCHESTER, Va. -
The Shenandoah University men's basketball team matched its win total from the 2006-07 season Monday night with a 77-60 non-league victory over Frostburg State.
The win gives SU (7-1) a season sweep over the Bobcats (1-5). Shenandoah opened the year with an 87-68 victory over FSU in the opening round of the Roanoke Tournament on November 16.
The sixth straight victory also gives the Hornets the program's longest winning streak since the 1990-91 team won 10 consecutive contests.
Monday's win, which came in the 80th lifetime meeting between the two schools, did not come easy.
Frostburg State battled back from an early deficit to take a five point lead, 29-24, with 4:29 to play in the first half. Shenandoah was only able to enter the half tied 33-33 by finishing the stanza on a 7-2 run.
As it had in its past three games, SU started the second half strong. With the score tied at 39-39 at the 18:33 mark, the Hornets put their visitors away for good with a 14-4 run over the next 5:28.
From this point on, Shenandoah held at least a double-digit lead and pushed the advantage out to as many as 18 points before coasting home to the win.
Coach Rob Harris' club was stellar from the line - they shot a school record 96.2 percent (25 of 26) from the charity stripe and made all 17 attempts in the second half.
Senior Jeremiah Lawrence, who was held to seven points in the first half, finished the game with 26 while classmate Onyie Onunaku had 17 with nine boards. The two men were a combined 19 for 20 from the line.
