PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week for Jan. 7, 2008

After being honored on the All-Tournament team at the 37th Annual Marietta Shrine Tournament, Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) has now been named the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week.  The senior posted a total of 43 points in his two games of the tournament, both resulting in losses for the Bobcats.  In the second game of the tournament against Waynesburg, Green showed he is more than just recording large numbers in the scoring column when he dished out 7 assists, had 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.

This past Saturday, the 5'10" guard played a large part in helping Frostburg State hit the century mark for the first time this season and snap a three game skid when they beat Mt. Aloysius by scoring 16 points and having 9 assists.  For the season Green is leading the team with 12.9 ppg, 2.1 steals, and 32.2 minutes per game.

The Frostburg State Bobcats look to improve on their overall record of (3-9) when they travel to face Pitt-Bradford at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday January 12.

About the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week Award

Entering its second year, the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis on behalf of the Pride of Maryland Tournament Committee. Each week, each of the nine Pride of Maryland schools has the ability to nominate one men's basketball player, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members vote to select the most outstanding player of the group. Simply, the student-athlete with the most votes becomes the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week. All student-athletes who receive votes, but are not named the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week, are then named to the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Honor Roll.

The award will be presented on Mondays, beginning on November 19, 2007, and concluding February 25, 2008, with a two-week hiatus on December 25, 2006.

The Pride of Maryland is comprised of the nine NCAA Division III schools in the state: Frostburg State University, Goucher College, Hood College, John Hopkins University, McDaniel College, Salisbury University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Villa Julie College and Washington College.
